Hi,
I entered in to USA on 11/1999, still working on H1B
GC: PD is 2005, EB3
I can't port to EB2, as my education is combinational (Diploma + AMIE), not 4-year single degree.

Pappu excellent post full of true facts. Being smart in my opinion means being knowledgeable and aware of the current situation at any given point of time rather than being ignorant and indifferent. Most of the time doing some basic research can lead an individual to the right option that is legally consistent and correct, it�s really never too late to correct course. Yes there will be street smart people (Sub labor being one example) who will game the system but besides other things let�s accept that they know how things work. Life is about learning and then What Next? It�s really about continuous improvement and trying to move in the right direction. Not having the desired end result is fine but not doing anything or not trying is bad. Very nice and motivating stories from some of the veteran�s you give us the motivation to hang on. OP you seem to have started a nice discussion.

It's hard to believe that folks dont know anything about the Green-Card process when they come in. Let us say that you are right on, but they would have eventually figured it out by the end of couple years. I believe it is the situations like layoffs, move from one company to other for better prospects and salary will make them to enter the process late. It is their personal choice and I don't question that. But I believe they had options to apply for GC early in the process and they did not. So why penalize others who did before them. Please don't think Iam saying this because I entered late. I came during early 1998 and I did wait for 4 years to apply.
Many of the H1B's are so involved in their work , they really donot follow their green card procedure and pressure their employers for better deal on filing their papers even when they have the chance.
New H1B's coming into the country should be given some guidance on the permanent residency process so that they donot end up like many of us in the forum waiting for years to get their residency.

My suggestion for everyone reading this is - do not send this information to your Company or HR department. They could ask us to table this additional cost. I work for Accenture so I hope that this does not apply to my employer with less than 50% employees on visa. But I'm not going to write to them asking about this because they may turn around asking us to eat this new cost.
How about you? Has anyone contacted their employer already? What are they saying?

I understand but i already sent our media drive to 50 different media , i aleady sent multiple faxes , i already sent many many emails but please advise me what more should i do to convince IV core that issues i have mentioned also effect many who are already IV members , i am requesting you to see Text of Webfax is added acoordingly ?

USCIS to Issue Two-Year EAD for I-485 Waiters at End of June 2008
The Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security announced on 06/09/2008 that the DHS would start issuing two-year EAD beginning from end of June 2008 for the I-485 filers. Hooray!
Announcement: "I'm also pleased to announce that we will be extending the validity period of the employment authorization documents that we issue to individuals who are waiting adjustment of status to lawful permit residenture or in colloquial phrase, the green card. Currently, adjustment applications are granted employment authorization documents with only a one year maximum validity. Beginning later this month, we'll start issuing these documents with a two-year validity period for aliens who are waiting adjustment of status if their application is expected to be pending for more than a year. This, again, is eliminating a persistent source of frustration for workers who are here, who have a pending adjustment application but have to go and renew their employment documents every single year. It's going to cut the paperwork there."

I congratulate everyone whoes PD becomes current beginning of next month. But be aware that all of this is no good until USCIS acts on it. USCIS has to match and increase their pace of processing I-140 & I-485s for people to benefit of this movement. There are thousands of people whose PD have been current since April of this year and still they see no movement on their cases. PD becoming current is just the first & crucial step in the this long process, but now it all depends on how well USCIS responds by processing cases in FIFO manner.

I was wondering which center my PERM app will go? Atlanta or Chicago? My co is detroit based. I am just filing now, so if it goes to chicago, there is a chance that I can file my I-140 before 1st October deadline (assuming the new CIR becomes law) .

Correct me if I am wrong, ---but I thought that "This Ammendment" was attached to a defence bill. I dont think that it was the ammendment that was shot down, but the whole defence bill.

This particular Cornyn amendment (S.Amdt. 2339) offered to attach to H.R. 2669 (College Cost Reduction Act of 2007 ), but the motion was failed due to lack of 5 votes.(55 YEAS and 40 NAYs. Require 3/5 majority) HR.2669 is passed by both Senate and house and sent for conference to resolve the difference between house and senate versions and president is sure to sign the bill and thus would become the law in another few days. This amendment does not have anything to do with defence bill or with SKILL bill. Following is the actions taken by congress of HR 2669.
IF THE AMENDMENT HAD PASSED WE WOULD HAVE GOT ATLEAST 240,000 RECAPTURED, UNUSED VISAS OF PREVIOUS YEARS IN ANOTHER FEW DAYS.

Here is my point. I spend several hours 3-4 hours at least every day looking through the forum posts hoping to find ways i can contribute to efforts. There are several ideas that are generated in the forum. But cannot find out who is leading it. All i am saying is if we can have a listing of initiatives with some names associated. So i can contribute to the ones that i can support. I am not sure if i am asking for too much here. I am not a IT guy. I do not know what it takes to post it in the front page.
