To be fair - India definitely has a competitive K-12 system because they are not all public schools (for free) like here. So the people who do get into IITs and RECs already have an edge.
Having said that - the Indian college education like Gayatri said is not as rigorous as it is here (and I am NOT talking about the IITs).
People pay a lot to go to college in the US and hence are generally more serious about their education. Fact is, a plumber can also make a good living here without a college degree. Its only those who can pay and are interested go to college. Ethical issues like copyright/plagiarism are also taken more seriously here and students are trained in critical thinking.
In all I think both nations have good and bad. I have to READ Wadhwa's report to understand what he is trying to convey. All I heard was 'apples and oranges and pineapples' from his talk.
Have a good night!

Guys don’t presume you don’t have rights for this and that. late in spring of 2005 I had a meeting with my state’s senator and he took all my details and wrote to Backlog Center in Philadelphia. After 2 months his office called me and send me the correspondence they got from BEC. They had description about my file etc. my labor was cleared in a month after that. Apparently BECs informed his office about the approval too, and to my surprize they called me up again and told me the news. They are public office they are answerable to us, we need to ask…
I'm not saying we don't have rights, but what you are asking are the internal workings of a government agency.
You can't even vote. You can't even just change employers without hassle. You can't even just leave the country and come without proper documents. You can't even apply for a student loan. You can be deported any time you have a problem. You can't even renew your driver's license without showin proof of proper residency.
Even with GC your rights are still not as good as a US citizen.
Yes we do have rights.
But the government is only answerable to a certain level. You cannot ask for information of the internal workings of a government. That's not going to happen.

Hi ind_game, attorney and all readers,
After reading ind_game last quote "God save AC21.....". I have following questions:
1. Do you know any one (your friend, client) used AC21 and faced same problem? Es
2. Is it true that AC-21 info don't get updated in the USCIS records?
3. If yes (2 question), then x-employer I-140 revocation will ALWAYS result in THIS kind of problems (as ind-game is facing)?
4. To attorneys only: Is AC-21 really helpful or misleading? Asking because if it don't update in USCIS records.
Please reply.
thanks,
waitingmygc
Almost everyone who use AC21 and had their ex employer informing USCIS about the job change has gone through this.
There is no case of AC21 being denied. It is the law, no need to be scared if you did everything right.

Hi
I'm wondering how many are still awaiting advanced parole? I am travelling in a months time, and do intend to go for H1 stamping but at the same time expecting my AP to come through before I leave. Whats up with this delay? Anyone else in the same situation? Please respond.
I applied on Aug 10 - Nebraska

Yes. By Law and by the Book. But I just saw in my friend circle. Most of them were US Masters.
I don't what how you define "most" but I am EB2 with US masters with PD 2006 and I am still waiting. Many of my friends with US masters are still waiting.

Thank you mohitb272, wolfsappi, kanaihya and ravikanthe. All your help and contributions are greatly appreciated.
Details of my $100 contribution are in my signature.
To people who still have their finger on the trigger,
Guys, Are we ready to fire the next round? Believe me you will feel good. The gun is loaded with 5 bullets again.
But wait a minute, someone told me this revolver has six chambers. We can put one extra bullet in this baby.
Would any senior member or previous contributors like to be the guest of honor and help us fire the last bullet?
On a more serious note we still required $10,000 before Sept 18th.

Having said that, since we are non-resident aliens (i.e the ones without green card or US citizenship) will not get a stimulus package?
An overwhelming chunk of all of us are considered resident aliens from IRS's perpective so you are eligible. In fact, I would think every single one of us on this forum is a resident alien since we all fit IRS's definition of a "resident alien" as per their "substantial preference test". The following is copy-paste from IRS:
Topic 851 - Resident and Non–Resident Aliens
You are considered a resident alien if you met one of two tests for the calendar year.
The first test is the "green card test." If at any time during the calendar year you were a lawful permanent resident of the United States according to the immigration laws, and this status has not been rescinded or administratively or judicially determined to have been abandoned, you are considered to have met the green card test.
The second test is the "substantial presence test". For the purposes of this test, the term United Stated includes the following areas:
All 50 states and the District of Columbia.
The territorial waters of the United States.
The seabed and subsoil of those submarine areas that are adjacent to U.S. territorial waters and over which the United States has exclusive rights under international law to explore and exploit natural resources. The term does not include U.S. possessions and territories or U.S. airspace.
To meet the substantial presence test, you must have been physically present in the United States on at least 31 days during the current year, and 183 days during the 3 year period that includes the current year and the 2 years immediately before. To satisfy the 183 days requirement, count all of the days you were present in the current year, and one–third of the days you were present in the first year before the current year, and one–sixth of the days you were present in the second year before the current year. Do not count any day you were present in the United States as an "exempt individual" or commute from Canada or Mexico to work in the United States on more than 75% of the workdays during your working period.
For more information, see the IRS guidance: http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc851.html
Regards,
Jayant
P.S.: Since taxes are inevitable, here's hoping we soon pass the first "green card test" as well. :)

FINAL UPDATE
HURRAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
My I-485 case got reopened after being in denial status for three months............ My attorney got a letter from USCIS.
::::::::::::::::::To recap::::::::::::::
I went to the Congressional office on 05/14/2009 morning.
Congressional office made a call to Nebraska Service Center regarding the case on the same day afternoon (05/14/2009 afternoon)
USCIS sent letter to my attorney on Friday (05/15/2009).
My attorney received it this morning (05/19/2009).
Looks like magic........Whoever has been working on my case from the past three months made a huge reversal decision in just a few hours on 05/14/2009 afternoon with atmost attention........I like this sudden surge in commitment and care on my case.......
Here is the wording:
Quote""""""""""""""""""""""""
Reference is made to the Notice of Appeal or Motion (Form I-290B) filed on April 23, 2009. You are seeking reopen the decision rendered by USCIS on February 17, 2009, denying application filed by you.
The motion as submitted has been reviewed. It meets the requirements of Title 8, COde of Federal Regulations, $103.5 concerning the proper filing of a motion. Accordingly, the request to reopen the previous decision will be and is hereby granted.
The facts and issues in this matter were properly discussed in the decision, supra, and need not be repeated here as they are a matter of record.
After a complete review of the record of proceedings, including your motion, the grounds for denial have been overcome.
The application will be reopened and the processing continued. Once the processing is completed, you will receive a notice under separate cover.
Sincerely

I do agree , but I do not see any $20 contribution in google checkout or paypal. We have to mail the checks.I guess we can get more donations if we include $25,$50,$75 contributions in google checkout as well as paypal.Correct me If I am missing some thing.
This has been discussed before, People can send in checks of whatever denomination or pay it thru their banks - Set it up as automatic payment every month if they like. (for smaller denominations).
$50 monthly is minimum. In any case, is $50 a big amount? for such a cause?
