Its all politics my dear. Dont take the votes as it is. All these are eyewash and most of it were decided even before they vote. Why you think they have minority and majoirty leader. Those are the key people along with certain key senators / congressmens.
Election is the major event which affects everyone in the senate or congress. First eveyone wants to please their constituents and win and retain their seat. This is the first and foremost priority than passing the SKIL bill at this time. Be practical and I myself will do the same if I were a politician.

If you really want, you can make sense of the "disconnected" arguments, as they all address various points of your counter-arguments.
And again, we are unable to get enough members to fight for visa recapture or i-485 filing and you want to go about closing loopholes?
There was no way for me to know, but my "guess" is close enough, dont you think?

keep up the great work.

Please make appropriate changes to the letter stating the we are also the victims of DOL's backlog elimination center and at every stage of this process its taking years to get through. Mail your letter and completed Form 7001 to Ombudsman's office and lets see what they do it about it. Please post any responses you receive from Ombudsman's office.

My heart jumps with joy, but my brain still caution the heart to wait for the official visa bulletin at DOS/USCIS website. USCIS has a trend of "correcting" the visa bulletin. Nevertheless, if the dates are really what they are published at Mumbai site, its a time for us to be happy.
EB2 looks promising, but in this moment of joy lets not forget our friends in EB3 category. Anyone whose priority date is current, please don't just move forward with your joy, and continue to support IV and our initiatives to help legal immigrants. We have suffered so much because the folks who came prior to us never bothered to support legal immigration, once they got their their GC. Please remember that after GC/Citizenship, our status in this nation as a minority group depends on how active we are socially/politically.

Just called offices of the following senators, spoke with the assistants, explained my position and left a message. Most of them have no position yet till more details about the legislation comes in. As details unfold in nearby future, I will actually try to go meet my local senators - they are key for this legislation. Last yr, I had met my local congressman's assistant.

My PD is March-2003 and I didn't get the labor cleared till Late 2006
I just can't help wondering how did you get your labor in 2004 with the PD of May-2003? How come snake of BEC didn't bite you? :)
Prior to BEC, the Labor certs need to clear the state and then regional processing center. Stated like NJ, NY, CA, etc the wait time for Labor was years, while Iowa, MA, etc cleared labor in few months and many lucky folks got the GC from start / labor to 485 approval in 15-18 months... The unlucky ones (me included) are stuck now even with earlier PD in AOS... Hope something good happens in second half of FY09 atleast.... for all

In my case; I was offered a refinancing rate that was 0.5% more than what I would pay if I were a GC holder. The reasoning is the short term validity of H1. Ironically I wasn't discriminated 3 years ago when I bought my house. At that time; I even didn't have my labor cert cleared. Now 3 years down the line; I have cleared first 2 stages and applied to I-485; bank charges me more :) Weird!!!!

Looking through the ammendments, one that stuck out was about the drunk driving conviction. The ammendment makes it a deportable crime. Well, not that we would ever be stupid enough to drink and drive. But, if you do, and you get caught, be aware of the serious implications it may have.
Arihant, i thought that was only for illegals. Somehow i dont think that Drunk driving is one of our major problems ;-)

On page 10 of this thread you can see my other entry.
I got my receipt numbers on March 14th.
I immediately called customer service to figure out what my options are.
They inoltrated a request to expedite and gave me a WTCxxxxxxxxx confirmation number (similar to what happened to watertown).
I read the various forums and I cannot find any other example of this WTC confirmation numbers.
Are there other people that requested to expedite AP through the phone and got a WTCxxx number?
What is your experience with this method?

I think what AILA, our core group and other attorneys are trying to say is that as long as you filed before May 15, 2007 you will be fine regardless of whether your petition is pending or approved. There is no dispute about this point. Any applications that were filed after May 15, 2007 will become null and void the day this bill is signed by the president to make it a law. The 'effective date' ( Oct 1, 2008 ) does not apply for applications filed after May 15, 2007. I will be glad if you can prove me wrong :)

Have another PERM labor approved but am hoping this one gets approved so I can get the earlie PD.
Going by the recent trend (per spreadsheets generated by someone at immigrationportal) I am actually thinking there might be a chance all the BEC backlogs get cleared by December, if not by the stated goal of September.

what is the scenario for someone like me who would file I-140 in the next couple of months?
what are the chances of Schedule A being alloted additional visa numbers in the next 2 years?
how much wait time would be expected under EB 3 category for India for someone whose priority date wud b oct or nov'07???

I will try to answer on your second question first. Shumer/Hutchinson amendment is the only our chanse for now. Try hammond law group, or shusterman, you will find info about it there. Shortly, it is the second try of Mr.Shumer and Ms. Hutchinson to amend an "Omnibous Bill" with a favorable for nurses and PT amendment. It would provide all schedule "A" with 61000 visas! If it is passed, we will be in chocolate:D , I mean you will get your GC in approximately 6-8 months (or a year). Nobody knows what are the chanses! My opinion that we have 50% that such a bill will be attached, and than we again have 50% that it will be passed and signed by Bush, before the end of the year.:rolleyes: If we are not lucky we would not see any favorable bills till after the elections of president and senate, late 2009(!).:mad:

I have a loan with LIC. The rates are pretty good and no-prepayment penalty if paid using NRI funds only. Took some time to set all this up. Definitely need a local person to carry out all the paperwork and good support from the builder. Their email system is not very efficient. Tried with HDFC before this in Hyd and had lots of problems getting the loan even after contacting the CEO.
