Thank you karan007, pvhemanth, zappy, dvrao4, lp2007 and permfiling for the contributions. I am so happy that we were able to conclude this round with the help of only the junior members. Some of you have not posted much. Obviously, you found lot of things on this site that piqued your interest. I appreciate the fact that you did not hesitate to pull the trigger. Because of you, we can close this round and move to the final round.
I hope the final round starts with a person who visits this site regularly, find helpful suggestions and tips, and is generally happy with things moving in the right direction and knows IV is an important part of this process. Even though he supports the rally, he cannot come because he probably lives on the west coast, but would have definitely attended the rally if he or she were working in NJ, MD, PA, VA or any other neighboring states. I am confused and think about this daily. I am here in US for the past 8+ years and I am 33 now. All my friends who have stayed back in India are in very good managerial position and earning well. Money is not the issue now, but the career.
I thought about going back to India and when I started the job search, I ended up seeing myself aged out. Being stuck with my GC, I am now continuing as a Sr Software er for the past 8 years. I did not move up an inch all these years and I did not think it is going to affect my career till now. Now if I look back, I sometime think that I have made wrong choices unknowingly.
In India:
1. I am not fit for Sr Software Er position as guys from college with 2+ years of experience fills that position.
2. I dont want tech lead / team lead as I hear from my friends there it is going back 5years for me for my age.
3. I am not getting project manager position as I do not have any managerial experience.
If I get a good position in India, I am ready to go back. At the same time, I have two kids who are born here in US and I own a house (technically I am proud owner of mortgage debt not house) here in US. I have to close all my debts before I decide to go back.
I AM NOT IN CLEAR STATE OF MIND. MAY BE GETTING GC WILL HELP ME OUT.
Exactly same thoughts cross my mind too. I am planning to finish my Masters, on a part-time basis, after which I have to decide my direction for good. I don't have any kids so that is not a factor to hold me back to this country. But I face my biggest discouragement about returning to my home country, when I think of a typical workplace atmosphere there. If you are working for one of the software firms delivering services to international clients, you might end up as someone who simply follows the orders from overseas clients - working 14-15 hours at least 6 days a week. Add to that the living conditions, feudal bureacracy and you have conjured up a recipe for formidable hardship and frustration. On the other hand, US has a growing economy and newer opportunities come here first. Also I have quite a few friends here who have got theirs GCs and are doing good. So, that serves as a sort of inspiration for me.
So, overall, I am also confused. My wife is my driving force, positive about making it big here- business or corporate world and my only hope. But she has been put up at home, now for more than 4 years; pretty hard to imagine especially with MPhil and an MS from US universities.

Why this fight for EB2 vs EB3..
ideally GC should be given based on one's arrival in US or based on first filing of GC..irrespective of which category u r
keeping that in mind, it doesn't matter, if u r EB2 or EB3 or if u r porting the date..because in either way..one will get GC (luck is still a factor) based on number of years in US or years since GC process started.
given a chance and if permissible under the law, most of us would want to switch to EB1..or even change the birthplace..to avoid this mess..but then it is too difficult to switch to EB1 compared to switching from EB3 to EB2. one would always take the least resistive path and it is right as long as it is not illegal under the current law..(oh..no..don't talk about morality..because when personal interests are at stake..nothing matters..for most of us)
anyway..they have successfully created enough divisions among ourselves EB1,2,3...row...the bright side of eb3 to eb3 porting is..that everyone will become eb2 and then we will stand united..hopefully..but then we will have divisions..eb2 before this year..eb2 originally filed..eb2 with masters from us..eb2 with 5 yrs of experience..eb2 with two masters...eb2 with fair screen..eb2 with black skin..

Till last year EB 3 would get additional visa from the leftovers of ROW, both EB2 and EB 3-I would benefit from the ROW visia, now all the visas are going to EB2, so i agree with you, there is little hope for EB 3.
Why are there no repurcussions if USCIS admits that they were incorrectly allocating the visa earlier. they can suddenly change the rules and everybody keeps quiet....strange.
EB-3 won't need help when everyone else is done because the only people left to allocate visas would be EB-3 only . I guess we are just in for a long long wait.

Mine is "Advanced Degree, or Exceptional Ability". I got my I-140 approved in June 2007 and haven't filed my 485 because I was not married at that time.

I mean let's set at least one goal!
After that we can establish what we have, and how we can make it real.
Anyway, it might be quite difficult to organise such a work group, because the majourity of schedule A are outside the US, and on CP... But we all have our emploiers and attorneis who could help us to lobby our interests in the US.
What do you think about it?
My wife is a RN just passed her NCLEX from Texas. She studied in US. Looking for a sponsor. Asked one of them and they replied there is no H1 for Nurses, you have to be a BSN to be sponsored. Time is bad for nurses after Schedule A quota is over.

Unconfirmed sources indicate that two days before the end of FY 2007, there may be a substantial number of 485 applications for which visa numbers are available but have yet to be adjudicated, indicating that some visa numbers could be wasted this year. We know that the Service Centers have been working day and night and did not have enough resources to deal with the crisis which was brought about by the recent Visa Bulletin fiasco. We just hope for the better new fiscal year that will start from October 1, 2007.

I searched various forums but I couldn't get any solid threads on visa number because it is so common term the search always yields wrong threads! so can some one tell me..what is a visa number after filing 485? is it same a A # ? or is there another number besides A#? There is no doubt about NRIs are the prime reason for the real estate boom in India. It is tottally unbelivable that 2 bedroom flat in a normal second class town has gone to up to 40 lakes. Decent independent houses are in terms of crores in small cites. Two factors. One is foreign money and second in black money from local dadas/politicians. Also demand vs supply. The availble land is small and demand for that land is too high due to these two gropus.
I visited one of my NRI friends house in India, where he is not going to live as he is a US citizen. His parents already won two houses and they bought another house as a investment. This house in a recent development area in a small town where there is no high tech employment is avialable; In my feeling it may not worth 5 lakes; they were selling at 45 lakes. Even if anyone ready to pay 45 lakes there is no unit is avialable; everything was sold to NRIs. No resident won the houses in that area. All the dads and mos are baby sitting the houses. Renting alos not that easy. It is tottally unbelivable. I wonder why all the NRIs buying house in India and increisng the house price? The guys working here (or any part of the world) and not going to live in India, why government should allow to buy the house and increse the price? Everyone tries to do real estate bussiness there. That is the main reason for price increase.
Is is sad. All these NRIs are going to learn a very valuable lesson. Speculation is not a good strategy for investing. A lot learned that in the past few months here in USA. In a year we will be seeing the full blown post bubble correction in India. If one can rent an apartment for 15,000 why would one buy it for 50 lakhs. The interest alone on 50 lakhs is 50,000 every month. It is like buy and rent it and loose money. Instead why don't they deposit in a bank and get 50,000 every month:confused:

Hi All,
My attorney and company (both) received copy of Approval Notice. One thing I noticed is Priority Date on Approval Notice is my EB3 Priority Date( October 2003 ). I think some kind update (porting) has happened. I have not seen any change in LUD on my I-485. This is just to update all and hope this information may be useful to someone.

My wife's DL renewal is pending for more than 2 months...When we contacted DMV they said its pending clearance from DHS (homeland security) and it could take take 120+ days to get their approval.
