In red is your problem. In marriage you're a unit; there is no "your" money or "my" money.. it's "our" money. If there are things more important to the unit than an iPad (I can think of many, many possibilities), then you're contorting the wife's stance unfairly.
And, just for the record, for the women/wife bashing that's happened in the thread I'd like to point out that it can go both ways. I'm a wife and we were standing in line on launch day for ME.. my husband would never have blessed the purchase if it came from joint funds. This is the beauty of separate "fun" accounts. An allowance per se for each of us, free from the negotiations that happen from joint accounts (and to anyone that argues that it's ridiculous that big purchases from joint money have to be discussed is going to be in for a rude awakening come marriage, IMO). More couples should have 'em.
Good point.

A good photographer can take brilliant photographs with a disposible camera, a bad photographer will still take rubbish photographs with a top end DSLR. :)

Does anyone know what the formatted capacities are of each (2 gig, 4 gig, 8 gig).
I can't find where I read it, but somewhere it looked like the formatting ate up 600 mb of space - YIKES!
Can anyone please clarify this, confirm, refute? Thanks!

One great thing I realized the other day is that the drop shield power up or whatever its called also restores your health which is awsome.
Yea, they wanted to combine some of the old Equipment items from Halo 3 to make them more useful. Drop Shield is a mix of the old Bubble Shield and the Regen. Active Camo mixes the old Camo and the Radar Jammer. But while it does make you invisible and jam your enemies radar, it also muffles your audio and jams your radar as well. Also, the Armor Lock puts off an EMP like effect, much like the old Power Drain, though you are obviously stuck in one place when using it. Lots of risk-reward involved in them.
I wasn't really sure how I would like the Armor Abilities, and the limited time I got with the Beta back in May didn't really help, since they were all a little broken then. But now, after playing quite a lot of Reach, I'm really enjoying them. It is really nice to always have them to use. The one-time use of the old equipment really did hinder their usage, so I can see why Bungie wanted to change. Sprint is my go-to piece, but I use Drop Shield a lot when playing Firefight.

Not sure yet,
But it looks like we may need to convert videos before we can place them onto our ipod from iTunes.
I just encoded a video using Quicktime Version 7.1.5 (available now via software update). Even after doing that, it appears that I have the option to encode it for iPod  .
::EDIT::
This feature is to encode videos dragged into iTunes, for your ipod.
Meaning. If you are able to drag a movie into iTunes and play it, you can now encode it to play on your Video iPod within iTunes!!

I didn't even notice the 1GB standard RAM until you mentioned it... I hope this ushers in a change for the other pro models...
Perhaps Mac Pros don't come standard with 1GB RAM because they are supposed to be super configurable, and Apple assumes more RAM will be added anyway?
The Mac Pro does come standard with 1GB of RAM. You can't configure a model with any less than 1GB of RAM.

I think you are right. Didn't it just get axed in europe? That may lend some credence to the iSight in the Cinema Displays.
If they put an iSight in the Cinema Displays and axe the stand alone iSight that would mean you would have to buy an ACD just to use the video stuff with the Powermac/Mac pro AND the mini. I wouldn't put it past them to do that but it would kinda suck. There have also been rumors of the IR reciever for Front Row being put in the ACD. If they didn't also put one on the Mac Pro, Front Row would be useless without an ACD hooked up. I agree with the above poster that we are all reading too much into the poster but oh well, it's fun. We'll all find out soon enough.

The basis for any good relationship is communication. And I am not sure what kind of money you make, but $500 is a pretty big wad of cash to throw down and it should merit a conversation with your spouse. Its not like you threw down a $1 on a cheeseburger, or $2 on a scratch off, or heck $20 of beer. You spent $500, thats like a whole months utilities. Thats a car payment. Thats a few hours of tuition for your kid's college one day. Its no chump change.
And household income should be considered just that, household. It does not matter who makes more money, it should be community, and if you're spending $500 on an iPad, then you're lady should be able to spend $500 on a coach purse. How would you feel about that?
Non-necessities, expensive purchases should always be discussed. There is a need for open, honest communication in a marriage. If you don't have that, and you are running around buying ipads without consulting them, well unless you got a fad wad of cash, you likely wont stay married long.
Its about respect. If you don't respect your wife enough to discuss a $500 purchase with her, then you don't deserve to have the companionship of a female.
Eh, you misunderstood me. The main point I was making is that the wife should not be able to prevent such a purchase IF THEY CAN AFFORD IT. In many cases, money itself is not an issue in such a purchase, as the wife would not blink twice in spending that amount on something SHE wants. My point was that sometimes they refuse things simply because they dont see it benefitting THEM- and that is something selfish, and shows a lack of respect. Of course if the guy is blowing $$ on an iPad when they're having trouble putting food on the table, thats an issue. My post wasnt centered on these cases. It made the assumption that it could comfortably be afforded, but which the wife doesnt see the value in it for herself, which is the sole reason of the refusal or the demand that it be returned. And Ive seen this on many, many occasions. I know this guy that brings in 6 figures a yr, yes his wife (who brings in nothing) controls the bank account. The guy has no balls, his wife dictates the purchases, buys whatever the hell she pleases, and gets upset when he spends on anything without consulting her. She doesnt let him buy **** he wants, the cost of which is a drop in the bucket compared to the income he makes, simply because SHE doesnt see the value in it. But like I said, the guy has no balls and takes it, while she spends thousands on shoes, etc without needing to consult him.But hey, some people love that ****. Sometimes you need to do things that give you individual pleasure in a marriage, not always 'pleasure as a unit'.

Hey,
Anyone else remember iBrary? A rumor circa 2002 if I remember... Check out the screen shot (luckily I founded still floating around thanks to google).
Edit:
Link to 2002 MOSR discussion (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=13443&highlight=ibrary)
It works by browsing a local book repository, a public Internet library, or a global Internet library (dunno which repository) for books or periodicals. It presently uses a format (.ibook) that is a sort of hybrid between eBooks and Audible.com (it seems that Harry Potter is available in this format). You can listen to the recording of the book as you read, since iBrary syncs the book's text with the recording.
I am also told that it utilizes dramatically improved text-to-speech, which suggests that may be a built-in feature of an upcoming OS update. This allows books which don't have soundtracks to be read by the computer, in any of 4 (currently) voices: Storytime, Narrator, Novella, and Anchorman. The synthesis quality is outstanding, seemingly able to handle emotion quite well.
Services are also available which allow you to lookup words in a dictionary or thesaurus, which may have a connection to Sherlock, or be handled within the app. When you click on the curled page corners there is an (OpenGL powered?) animation of the page flipping.

This would be a good thing if ANY of those stores actually had any iPads for sale.... As it is now they are just adding another store chain for people to check inventory :D
Doesn't matter where Apple sells its products. Better to make your products available everywhere than in just one or two specific stores. Remember: Not every city has an Apple store and can be quite a distance to the closest.

EDIT: Sub for the Sound Sticks?
Yep. That is the subwoofer for the Harman Kardon Soundsticks. :)
The new version of the Harman/Kardon Soundsticks III has a white light in the sub-woofer instead of blue.

The earbuds thing would make a great commercial. Imagine the earbud guy leaving with a girl while the other girl is still waiting for the guy to download. Now, no girl wants a guy to finish early but she doesn't want him to take forever either. It could be pretty funny.:D

They'd have to change the updates to be actual updates, rather than the "install the entire OS again" approach we have now.

Thinkpads are built incredibly well.
They may be the case but they sure don't look it. Every Windows laptop that I have seen (I have seen quite a lot of them) and they all seem to have one thing in common, they look like a chimp put them together. There is absolutely no vision in design to how the Windows PC manufactuters build their machines. It's like they have a parts bin and could care less about how they put the parts together. When I pick up a Windows PC laptop all I can think is what a piece of junk it is. A $600 piece of junk is still a piece of junk. The Windows PC towers aren't any better.
My $1300 laptop at work requires me to press a button to release the lid before it can be opened. I still can't figure out why anyone would be willing to spend $1300 on it vs. a 13" Macbook Pro.
A few years back I had a 8 year old iMac, the daisy design. I eneded up selling it for $350. I also had a HP Windows PC tower that was 5 years old. No one wanted to buy it so I ended up donating it to the Goodwill. Pretty much puts in perspective the value of Windows PCs.

Yes, flash has issues, but there are several sites that I want to use from the iPhone that require it. It would be good for the iPhone to support it.
Can you name off some of those sites and give their web address. Anyone else have sites they can name? I would like to see how much the lack of Flash on the iPhone cripples a web site. - thanks.
