South African-born Dave Matthews, the lead singer of rock band the Dave Matthews Band is having a great year with his most recent album, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King nominated this evening for a Grammy for Album of the Year. Matthews gave a great performance at the Haiti telethon last weekend with Neil Young. He's been active in a number of other charities helping farmers, Hurricane Katrina victims and victims of the Virginia Tech shooting (Matthews' hometown is Charlottesville, Virginia). On 04/11/2007, Senator Hagel introduced this special bill for a relief from the current H-1B visa crisis. The bill is now in the Senate Judiciary Committee. The full text of the bill has yet to be made available to the public. As soon as the bill, S. 1092 is available, we will post the detail. Please stay tuned to this web site.
Is this going to be just h1 ? or will EB GC related stuff be included ?
Is there any realistic chance that this will get thru ?

Could anyone share their experience/knowledge about getting home loan on EAD? My bank says that, for non-FHA loans, you need to be in any of the visa categories like H1, TN1, GC, ... But its list doesn't include EAD or Adjustment of Status. Can that list be challenged to include EAD? That is, how to convince the bank/lending inst that EAD is a legal/legitimate status like H1?

My friend is an F1 student (citizen of India) who has been in the US for 3 years as a grad student. She has paid US taxes on stipend/fellowship received from US university while pursuing grad studies (filing taxes as a non resident in US, since the first 5 years on F1 are not counted towards substantial presence test).
Does she need to also pay taxes on this stipend in india, or report this income in india? AFAIK, no taxes need to be paid in India on this US stipend, but I couldnt find any authoritative reference online.
Am asking, since someone I know recently got a letter from IT dept in india saying that the US authorities reported $10K of income when that person was a student (this was a fellowship from the university) - and the letter goes on to ask the person to meet someone at the indian IT department.

Hi,
I am planning to go to India for 3 months. I have EAD and AP, H1B visa stamping valid till 08/30/2010. Now I am on EAD.
From past 3 months, I don’t have project, so I am thinking to go India and come back in the month of Jan 2010 (if US market improves).
My wife is working on EAD and she will be staying in US.
What are the problems I may face at POE, US? (Possible Chicago POE)
Please let me know, what r all docs required and what r all questions will be asked, if I enter on AP or on valid H1B visa stamp.

As everybody knows by now, recently Arizona's Governor signed a law requiring local law enforcement officials to take into custody persons when they have a "reasonable suspicion" that they are present in the U.S. illegally.
